日本は「生産性が低い」と聞いたことはありますか？国を比較する場合、「労働生産性」という概念が用いられ、【国のＧＤＰ ÷ 労働者数若しくは総労働時間】を意味します。難しく聞こえるかもしれませんが、アウトプットとインプットの割合で、国の労働生産性が決まりるわけです。
結論を先にいうと、日本の労働生産性が低いだけなく、戦後以降、Ｇ７において最下位で推移してきており、Ｇ７の上位国である米国やドイツに比べるとかなりの差がついています。実は、２０２３年に、日本のＧＤＰがドイツに抜かされ、世界ランキングで４位に転落したのは、生産性の違いを表しています（つまり、ドイツが８，３００万人の人口しかないのに、１億２，０００万人以上の人口をもつ日本より大きなＧＤＰを生み出せるのは、ドイツの労働者当りのアウトプットが日本より大きく、生産性がより高いからです）。
ただし、なぜ日本の生産性が低いでしょうか？そしてそれよりも大切なのは、これから何をすれば、日本の生産性が上がるのでしょうか？その答えを求めるべく、当社の創業者はコロナ禍以前から、一般財団法人未来を創る財団と一緒に、長期にわたる研究活動を行ってまいりました。

Have you ever heard that productivity is low in Japan? When comparing countries, the word 'productivity' refers to 'labor productivity,' which is calculated by dividing a country's GDP by either its number of workers or by the total number of hours worked in that country. It sounds difficult, but in sum, productivity is merely a ratio of outputs to inputs.
Returning to the initial question: productivity is not only low in Japan, but it has been the lowest amongst the G7 nations since the end of WWII, with a significant gap between the top nations, USA and Germany. In fact, Japan's GDP (population over 120 million) being eclipsed by Germany (population roughly 83 million) in 2023 is a clear indication of the importance of labor productivity.
However, why is productivity low in Japan in the first place? More importantly, what can be done to improve Japanese productivity moving forward? To answer this question, the founder of Conti Global Consulting worked alongside the Outlook Foundation on a long-term research project initiated in 2019. The results of this project were presented nationally in an online forum in February 2022, and the research report, released simultaneously, remains available for download on the Outlook Foundation's website (only Japanese available).
Productivity is an important metric strongly correlated with a country's socioeconomic health and quality of life.
